School counselors strive to empower students to embrace their full potential and to achieve their persoanl and academic aspirations.
What is the Role of the Counselor?
School Counselors support the developmental and academic needs of students. Counselors collaborate with school staff, administration, and the parent community to ensure the intergration and alignment of the school counseling program and the mission of the school. School counselors deliever prevention and intervention services that support the academic, career, personal, interpersonal, and healthy development of all students. Prevention and intervention services include academic advocacy, group lessons, individual student services, staff and parent consultation, school program support and crisis response. As a counselor I make referrals, provide consultation to school staff, provide advocacy for students, provide consultation and communication with parents/guardians to support students' academic and social success, education in understanding self and others, coping strategies, peer relationships and effective social skills communication, problem solving, decision making, and conflict resolution, crisis intervention and homless assistance.
How do students make an appointment to see their counselor?
Students can make an appointment with the counselor at any time. Students can request their teacher contact the counselor to set a time to meet or students may also stop by the counselor's office to request an urgent appointment.
